and WHY DOES THE BILL RUN HIGHER FOR WOMEN OF COLOR?
“Every woman needs to read this book.” - Chelsea Clinton
You've probably heard of the pink tax—that additional price women pay to exist in the same world as men. Now meet the double tax, the compounded cost of racism and sexism or the pink tax and then some.
The Double Tax is a journey of uncovering the everyday costs women face. Throughout the book, Anna Gifty discovers that not only do women spend more money, time, and effort than men, but also that Black and white women lead vastly different lives, marked by gaps in beauty, motherhood, career, and more.
Between conversations with hundreds of women and studies outlining the many price tags of womanhood, Anna Gifty charts a path forward that centers women without leaving anyone behind.

Thank you for picking up The Double Tax. This journey of uncovering the everyday costs women face took nearly three years. This book—and all of the stories and data within it—came to life because of communities like yours and people like you.
The Double Tax is dedicated to my three nieces—Tia, Gigi, and Yaya—and wouldn’t have been possible without God, my support system, The Double Tax community, Leila Campoli, Penguin/ Portfolio, and our research team. I hope you join us on this journey, take what my community gave me, and pay it forward.
