Dr. Jewel Scott

HEALTHCARE

Dr. Jewel Scott is a nurse with nearly two decades of experience in community-based primary care. Her nursing background led to her research on preventing hypertension and heart disease among young Black women. Her research aims to change the narrative around Black women’s health, moving away from blaming those with chronic disease to understanding the influence of social structures and systems on health and identifying protective factors. She is currently developing projects examining the relationships between racism, mental health, and blood pressure among childbearing people. Dr. Scott is a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded researcher and an RWJF Future of Nursing Scholar.
